ITOGON, Benguet – A 48-year old construction worker died while his two companions were injured after their dump truck allegedly suffered from mechanical trouble, bumped another truck on the side of the road, stumbled on its back and rested on the center of the road at Lower Manga, Tuding here, Thursday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Jun Balingan Cuengan, 48, single, construction worker, native and resident of Lower Manga Tuding, Itogon, Benguet while his injured companions were named as Erwin Ravago Diase Jr., 43, married, and presently residing at Trail Tuding, Itogon, Benguet and Winsly Segundo Alonzo, 42, married, native and resident of Proper Tuding, Itogon, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed the truck was descending along the said road when it suffered mechanical trouble that prompted the driver to shift to first gear and apply full exhaust brake while his helper tried to apply the hand break. However the truck continued to move downward that prompted the driver to bump the truck that was parked on the left side of the road.
Ironically, the truck turned on its back, and rested on the center of the road that caused its occupants to suffer from head and body injuries.
The victims were rushed by rescuers to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment but the fatality was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians due to serious head and body injuries while his companions were subsequently confied thereat.
