BAGUIO CITY – Young and aspiring basketball, volleyball and football enthusiasts from the City of Pines can have a taste of how be mentored by their favorite Alaska coaches as Alaska is bringing its 2017 Power Camp to the City of Pines this June.
Former Alaska Ace Jeffrey Cariaso, former Lady Green Archer Michelle Gumabao, and former Spanish professional player Tomas Lozano heads Alaska Team coaches that will conduct the camps.
Cariaso, a 1996 PBA Grand Slam member of the Alaska franchise, will head the basketball camp to be held on June 4 to 11 at the PMA Gym. The camp will be conducted from 8-11AM and is open to cagers aged 5-18.
Cariaso is expected to demonstrate proper ball handling, balance and coordination, techniques in offense and defense, running team related plays, as well as hustling, communicating, and how to be coachable.
Cariaso was a Rookie of the Year in 1995 and was instrumental in Alaska’s quest for the triple crown. He also once won the Best Player of the Conference and the Finals Most Valuable Player. His number 22 was one of the retired numbers by the Alaska franchise.
Gumabao will conduct the volleyball camp at the University of Baguio Gym from June 5 to 9 starting at 9AM to 12NN. She is expected to show how develop the most important skills in volleyball as well as the fundamental values and necessary attributes in playing the game.
Gumabao was a member of the women’s volleyball team of De La Salle University for four years, from 2010-201. During this stretch, the Lady Archers snagged three consecutive UAAP championships. Gumabao was also adjudged as Best Blocker twice and a Finals Most Valuable Player once during her stint.
The football camp, headed by Lozano, will be held on June 7-10 from 8AM to 12 NN at the Benguet State University. Lozano is expected to emphasize on promoting fitness, providing an outlet for the release of energy, developing new skills, teaching responsibility & commitment, instilling a desire to succeed, teaching how to cope with the realities of life, teaching cooperation, instilling positive attitudes toward authority, building character through discipline, preparing one to deal with success & failure, and providing a fun & enriching experience.
Lozano once played for Spanish and European Powerhouse Real Madrid.
Interested participants can avail of the camp by paying a registration fee P2,500 or presenting any proof of purchase worth P2,500 of Alaska Powders (Milk or Choco) during the first session.
