MANILA – Taekwondo Jins from the Baguio City UFC gym recently hauled 7 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals in the recently concluded 2018 National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships held at the Rizal Memorial Basketball Stadium on September 29-30, 2018 in Metro Manila.
During the two-day competitions, the Jins bested other competitors in the Poomsae and Kyorugi event or both form and sparing performances.
According to delegation head and Head Instructor of UFC Taekwondo gym Baguio City, Melvin Morte, the 27 man team performed their best in the competition with all the Jins reaching the quarter finals.
He enumerated the winners to be: POOMSAE (form) individual medallist: Gold – Michael Vincent Morte (boys’ division), Angelica Jane Tacorda (girls Division). Silver – Austine Zulaika Macaraeg; and Randon Dariell Bulatao, Bianca Mae De Leon, Camilla Lei Baniaga, and John Daniel Valencerina for Team Poomsae. Bronze – Alexandria Daphne Aganon, Haleigh Tyrin Buasen and Chariz Jehan Co. Jan Maricz Magdayao also landed 5th place.
KYORUGI(spaing) event medallists were: Gold – Jan Mricz Magdayao, Henry Daniel Valencerina, Austine Zulaika Macaraeg, Alexandria Daphne Aganon, and Liquiza Obas. Silver – Haleigh Tyrin Buasen, Jheizler Angelo Fernandez, and Rustom Leganzo. Quarter finalists in the Kyorugi event were: Michael Vincent Morte, Trisha Jen Mandawe, Stephen Rey Hidalgo, Edronnel Lidua, Odie Lidua, Jhomn Louke Llaneda, Jesieraine Quinangon and Ezra Agaoc.
Morte added that more exposure and regular practice of the athletes will give and help them attain their goals, like this good performance of the Baguio City Jins. He also added that interested individuals are always welcome at the UFC Taekwondo Gym, at Porta Vaga.
