LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Benguet State University Multi-purpose Cooperative (BSU-MPC) took home the first La Trinidad Coop Olympics basketball tournament at the expense of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post Multi-purpose Cooperative (LTVTP-MPC), 85-76, last October 25, 2017 at the La Trinidad Municipal Gym.
The tournament was a rapid one, as the single elimination format of the tournament demands perfection, that a team has to win every game, and that there will be no second chances for a loss will send home a team.
BSU-MPC responded to the challenge by carrying its “A” game throughout the competitions, tallying a total of four wins en route to the championship.
They first eliminated the team from the Cooperative Development Authority – Cordillera Administrative Region (CDA-CAR), 84-53, last October 15; then the Beckel Neighborhood Multi-purpose Cooperative, 82-76, and the Benguet Employees Multi-purpose Cooperative, 75-54, in back-to-back games last October 22 to advance to the finals against a waiting LTVTP-MPC.
The LTVTP-MPC first downed SRT La Trinidad Coop, 73-59, then knocked out the La Trinidad Municipal Employees Multi-purpose Cooperative, 84-73 in a morning-afternoon game twinner Last October 22, to reach the finals first.
Aside from the aforementioned cooperatives and agencies, the other participating entities were the Benguet Provincial Irrigation Office, Universal Multi-purpose Cooperative, Cordillera Brotherhood Service Cooperative, La Trinidad Organic Practitioners Multi-purpose Cooperative, and the Baguio – Tomay Jeepmeny Operators and Drivers Association Multi-purpose Cooperative.
