AGOO, La Union – Police personnel here led by Chief Inspector Artemio Infante filed robbery charges yesterday against a suspect who carted away more than P1 million in cash and computer units at the town’s treasurer’s office here on March 13,2015.
Infante said witnesses were able to identify the suspect as Mhark Garcia Saavedra, 33, with two given addresses in 45 CPG North Ave., Cogon, Tagbilaran City, Bohol; and Sto. Niño St., Provincial Rd., Barangay Gulwanon, Baclayon, Bohol.
Police said Saavedra is also facing another robbery case in Bacoor, Cavite.
According to Infante, the witnesses, pointed Saavedra because he was regularly seen at the municipal hall.
It can be recalled that the robbery was reported by employees to the police in the morning of March 16, 2015 after the municipal treasurer’s office of Wilma Ballesil-Suniega, was ransacked.
Agoo policemen said that, the alleged suspect barged into the office at dawn, on March 13, which was a Friday.
With the aid of a CCTV camera, they saw the suspect forcibly open the door to the treasurer’s office where he went on to take an Apple laptop worth P70,000 and about P1 million in cash.
Senior Supt. Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, said robbery charges against the suspect were already filed at the Prosecutors Office here.
Dumangeng told mediamen that they learned and confirmed on the identities and location of the suspect after coordinating with other law enforcement agencies.
“After four months of intelligence operations and coordination, finally we identified the suspect, and we consider that this case was already solved because charges have been filed,” Dumangeng said.
