LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Three teachers of Eastern La Trinidad National High School (ELTNHS), Beckel participated in the three-day Seminar on Action Research of the Benguet Division at the Cordillera Regional Science High School in Wangal to give emphasis on teachers’ immediate feedback and improvement on learning and teaching.
Agusta Alumno, Clarita Eddio and Norie Padngaran represented ELTNHS among the 100 participants from the different schools in La Trinidad District.
“Let’s make research a lifestyle,” Janet Lynn S. Montemayor, the resource person from Benguet State University, emphasized in her lecture. “Research should be something that we passionately do. Research is not work but a part of our system and lifestyle. As teachers, our main purpose is to improve our craft and that can only be attained through research,” she added.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Lucio B. Alawas from the division, reminded the participants why there is a need to conduct training on action research. He said teachers, as well as the school heads, are mandated to prepare and implement research, thus, conducting research is part of a teacher’s responsibility.
He invoked the DepEd Vision that “As a learner-centered public institution, the Department of Education continuously improves itself,” so, for continuous improvement, teachers must implement the best teaching techniques and strategies based on researches.
Alawas reminded the participants of DepEd Memorandum No.203 series of 2016 which states that action research gives emphasis on teachers’ immediate feedback and improvement on learning and teaching, gives teachers the flexibility to plan for an ever-improving curriculum, and make appropriate judgment on their current practice.
The action research proposals were presented by school representatives.
The said seminar was the second of the four batches initiated by the Research and Development Department of the Department of Education Benguet Division through the leadership of Dr. Mila T. Caliging, Ms. Sharon B. Angupa and Mr. Lucio B. Alawas.
The first batch was participated in by the school heads of the different schools in Benguet together with selected Benguet Division office personnel. The third and fourth batches, on the other hand, will be held on November 24-26 and November 27-29, 2016, respectively, at the Adivay Hall of the Benguet Division Office, Wangal.
