Farmer drowns in Dolores river

DOLORES, Abra September 10 – A 73-year old farmer died after he allegedly slipped and drowned while crossing the Malanas river in the border of Tayum and Dolores towns, here, Saturday.

Police authorities identified the fatality as Santiago Gabino Valdez, 73, married, farmer, and a resident of Poblacion, Dolores, Abra.

Initial police investigation showed that the victim, together with his companion, went to get pine twigs in the area and when they were on their way back home, the victim accidentally slipped and was carried away by the strong current of the river.

The lifeless body of the victim was recovered three hours after the untoward incident in a place distant from where the accident happened.

The remains of the victim was brought to his residence for him to be given a decent wake and burial.
