MANABO, Abra – A 38-year old farmer was hurt after he was repeatedly stabbed his nephew while pacifying a heated altercation between the latter and a relative during a drinking session at San Juan Nrte here around 10:20 pm Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Bartolome, provincial director of the Abra Provincial Office, identified the victim as Filemon Castro Ayat, 38, single, farmer and a resident of barangay Luzong, Manabo, Abra while he named the suspect to be Christopher Ayat Pagod, 27, married, also a farmer and a resident of San Juan Norte, Manabo, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the victim and the suspect, together with other companions, were having a drinking session when the suspect had a heated altercation with a certain Romy Ayat.
The victim tried to pacify the altercation but the suspect was irked and pulled out a knife that was tacked on his waist and stabbed him several times on his back and left side of his body.
Responding police operatives immediately rushed the victim to the Manabo Rural Health Unit for medical treatment but was transferred and confined at the Abra Provincial Hospital while the suspect was subsequently arrested and now detained at the Manabo Municipal Police Station awaiting the filing of frustrated homicide charges against him before the Abra provincial prosecutor’s office.
The motive of the case was misunderstanding due to drunkenness but the weapon used in the incident was no longer recovered by the probers.
