BAGUIO CITY – In time for the celebrations of the Flower Festival, “PANAGBENGA”, the 2017 FLORAS CUP basketball tournament will be on the go on February 24, 2017 enthusing cagers from the different public and private offices as well as ball clubs’ and enthusiasts from other organizations.
The tournament organized by teachers of the Baguio City High School, formerly BCNHS and headed by Albin Santos, is an annual basketball tournament and is dedicated to the current school principal, Romulo S. Flora. It aims to contribute to the development and enhancement of school facility projects as a fund raising activity through the efforts of teachers of the BCHS.
The tournament opened on February 21, 2017 with playing dates on weekdays from Tuesday to Friday at 7:00 in the evening onwards at the BCHS auditorium. The tournament will be having two brackets A and B and shall be played in a single round robin mode with the top four teams advancing to the semi-final and finals thereafter.
Meanwhile, the YMCA Cup will also feature the Members Basketball tournament which added a new bracket for religious groups. This bracket will feature teams from different churches, Christian fellowship groups and religious organizations.
The tentative schedule for the conduct of the tournament is on March, 2017 awaiting final meeting and approval of the organizing committee. The tournament shall be played in a single round robin format and following a cross-over two to beat system for the semi-final round. The championship games will be played on a knock-out system. Determination of winners shall be by a win/loss scorecard and in case of three teams tying the quotient system shall be applied.
Games shall be played during weekdays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:00 in the evening onwards. For interested groups with intentions to join the tournament please feel free to contact the YMCA of the City of Baguio administration office.
