Gardenville, Isaac pockets Strawberry Cup titles

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Gardenville and Isaac whipped their respective rivals to pocket the H and 40s title, respectively last August 11, 2017 at the La Trinidad Municipal Gym, here.

Gardenville used a second quarter flurry and Kenneth Antonio’s hot-shooting in the third to whip FMA-Aquisan, 82-56, for the H championship.

Charlie Lubuat initiated the first breakaway. With the score tight at 19-16, Gardenville, Lubuat canned four straight freethrows and three baskets, two of them assisted by Juan Antonio, to open a 10-point lead, 29-19, midway through the second quarter.

Gardenville then used an 11-0 run bridging the second and third quarters to convert a slim four point lead to a 15-point advantage early in the third to put the fight out of FMA.

From there, Kenneth Antonio keep on putting FMA at bay with his timely hits, pumping all of his 14 points that includes four triples.

Antonio fired his first triple to make it 52-34 midway to the third.

When FMA attempted to inch in later by reducing the deficit back to 15, Antonio fired back-to-back treys to restore a 20 point margin, 64-44, early in the fourth, all but securing Gardenville’s hold on the lead and the trophy.

On the other hand, Benjie Lorente and Bong Cachin scored in the 20’s to tow Isaac in taming the Isaiah 7:14 Bulldogs, 84-77, for the 40s jewel.

Lorente scored nine while Cachin drilled in eight as Isaac established a three-point halftime lead. Stanford Garcia carried the torch for the Bulldogs with his eight points, all made during the second quarter.

Christopher Sinong then took over in the third and fired nine as Isaac increased the lead to six. Lorente finished the night with 11 fourth quarter points that includes two triples to hand Isaac the win.

Cachin backed them up with seven in the third and five in the fourth.
