TIGON, Benguet – A 41-year old labourer was injured after he was repeatedly hacked by his companion playing cards during a wake at Surong, Gumatdang here recently.
Superintendent Cherry Fajardo, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, identified the victim as Alex Api-it Asiong, 41, married, labourer and a resident of Binanga Sur, Tuding, Itogon, Benguet while she named the suspect as Noel Saggob Bayawoc, 35, married and a resident of Surong, Gumatdang, Itogon, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed the victim and the suspect, together with some companions, were reportedly playing cards while attending a wake when the suspect suddenly left them.
After a few moments, the suspect came back to the place and was reportedly armed with a bolo and for still unknown reasons, he reportedly hacked the victim several times hitting him in the different parts of his body.
The victim sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment while the suspect was arrested by responding police operatives and is now detained at the Itogon Municipal Police Station awaiting the filing of the appropriate charges against him.
