Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22 this year, and wherever you may be on that special day, join us for global teach-ins and the worldwide March for Science.
The teach-ins will educate our communities about environmental issues and empower our communities to take informed civic action to protect the environment.
Our planet is currently losing over 15 billion trees each year, and that’s equivalent to almost 23 hectares of forest every minute or over 32,633 hectares every day. We’re working hard to reverse that trend by supporting global reforestation projects. Earth Day Network’s Reforestation Campaign benefits local communities, increases habitat for species, and combats climate change.
Many forest species are going extinct at a faster rate than ever before. We have entered a sixth mass extinction brought on by global human activity. We need everybody’s help to protect hundreds of species while we still can.
This Earth Day, we are launching an ambitious goal of achieving global climate and environmental literacy by Earth Day 2020. Education is the foundation for progress, and we need to build a global citizenry, which is fluent in the concepts of climate change and aware of its unprecedented threat to our planet.
We need to empower everyone with knowledge to act in defense of environmental protection. To help you craft your Earth Day 2017 events, the Earth Day Network has developed toolkit resources specialized to each community.
We invite local leaders to participate in the annual Global Day of Conversation, a platform for leaders to engage with their communities in conversations on challenges and opportunities related to sustainability.
The Earth Day Network launched its higher education campaign – MobilizeU – in 2012. MobilizeU is an international movement of concerned and active students and administrators uniting around the common interest of environmental action in support of a sustainable future for all.
Each year, we invite K-12 educators to join the Earth Day Network, and incorporate climate and environmental curriculum into their lesson plans during Climate Education Week, which this year is from April 22 to 29.
This year’s Climate Education Week Toolkit is a web-based, cross-disciplinary resource that includes a range of curricula, lesson plans, educational activities and films that will engage students to be fluent in local environmental issues, and tackle the unprecedented challenge of climate change.
Education is the foundation for progress. We need to build a global citizenry fluent in the concepts of climate change and aware of its unprecedented threat to our planet. We need to empower everyone with the knowledge to inspire action in defense of environmental protection.
Environmental and climate literacy is the engine, not only for creating green voters and advancing environmental and climate laws and policies, but also for accelerating green technologies and jobs.
This Earth Day, gather with your community for an Environmental & Climate Literacy Teach-In or any similar project focused on education. We are launching Earth Day teach-In toolkits that will lay out the steps for holding a successful event.
