ITOGON, Benguet – A pocket miner died while his two other companions were injured after their vehicle fell off a 7-meter ravine at Goldfields, Poblacion here Monday morning.
Senior Superintendent Forante Camuyot, officer-in-charge of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, identified the fatality as Lander Sukao, of legal age, miner, and a resident of Lawigen, Itogon, Benguet while he named the injured vehicle occupants as Manuel Comising, 57, married,, driver and a resident of Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet and Roy Chiote Kiange, 26, single, miner, and a resident of Dalupirip, Itogon, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed the jeep was about to make a U-turn in the place of incident when the driver tried to avoid a stone on the right side of the road but he allegedly miscalculated the curve causing the vehicle to immediately fell off the ravine.
The three occupants of the vehicle were immediately rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment but Sukao expired while undergoing medical treatment while his two other companions were confined in the said hospital for further observation.
