BAGUIO CITY – The City Council approved a resolution declaring November 21-24, 2017 as the 64th Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference Week in the City of Baguio.
For the past several decades, Baguio City has been always the host of the Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference sponsored by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA), the umbrella organization of mining stakeholders in the country.
Aside from the declaration of November 21-24, 2017 as the Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference Week in the city, the resolution also cited there is a need for the local government during the said period to suspend the implementation of the provisions of Ordinance No. 1, series of 2003 as amended otherwise known as the Baguio Number Coding Scheme, on the said dates to allow exclusively the PMSEA delegates and their families to enjoy their visit and stay in the city as they will contribute in enhancing the promotion of the booming local tourism industry.
The 64th edition of the Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference spearheaded by the PMSEA will be held on November 21-2014, 2017 wherein it will showcase best practices in aggressive promotion of its advocacy in responsible mining of mineral resources that contribute to the sustained growth and development of the country. The same is done through occupational health and safety, sound environment management and social contract through community partnership with local and national stakeholders.
PMSEA is an organization of mining companies, quarries, cement plants, suppliers, service contractors, professional organizations and government agencies that strongly advocates a national campaign against occupational safety, health and environmental hazards of mining and its related operations in the different parts of the country where the extractive industries are being undertaken by multinational companies.
In conducting the conference PMSEA will embrace the theme “Responsible Mining … In the Hearts and Minds of Filipinos.”
Some 500 mining industry stakeholders are expected to flock to the city on the scheduled activity to grace the lined up activities and spend their well deserved break by enjoying the city’s cool and romantic weather, pine-scented air and scenic spots during their week-long stint in the city.
Apart from the regular mining symposium involving experts from the industry, activities lined up by organizers of the week-long activities will include sports events, showcase of best practices in the mining industry, awards and recognition of top performing individuals and companies in the industry.
The local government always makes it a point to declare the scheduled dates of the Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference as a special week in the city because of PMSEA’s significant contribution to the growth of the local tourism industry through the years.
