Palaro 2017: CAR fourth in total golds but lands sixth on inferior silver, bronze count

The Cordillera Administrative Region contingent improved its ninth place finish last year but fell short of a top five finish by virtue of having a lower medal count.

The CAR delegation bagged a total of 68 medals, consisting of 26 golds, 21 silvers, and 21 bronzes. They are tied for fourth place in the gold medal count with Soccsksargen and Negros Island but had to settle for sixth on account of their inferior silver and bronze medal tally in a close fight.

Negros Island bagged fourth place with their 27 silvers with Soccksargen also having 21 silvers. The fight for fifth depended on the bronze count where Soccksargen nipped CAR with their 35 bronzes.

NCR romped away with the overall championship with 98 golds, 66 silvers and 45 bronzes. Calabarzon grabbed second place also by virtue of their 41 golds. Western Visayas, who were tied with them in golds before Saturday’s action started, were stuck with 38 each but was still good for third overall.

CAR’ s secondary division chipped in 16 golds, 17 silvers and 16 bronzes for the cause while the elementary division contributed 10 golds, four silvers, and five bronzes. The secondary division’s efforts landed them fourth while the elementary was still sixth in their bracket.
