BAGUIO CITY – The continuation of various public works projects in the city which were ordered suspended by Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson to avoid inconveniences among the motoring and commuting public during the celebration of the Yuletide season will resume on Sunday, January 4, 2015.
Engr. Alexander C. Castañeda, district engineer of the Baguio City District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works (DPWH-BCDEO), said all concreting projects that were earlier ordered suspended will resume work to ensure their immediate completion on time.
Earlier, Secretary Singson ordered the suspension of all projects in carriage ways nationwide from December 20, 2014 to January 4, 2015 to allow vacationers to have a convenient time moving from their points of origin to their points of destination during the Yuletide season.
“A portion of Ambiong Road will be closed to vehicular traffic starting on January 4 to allow us to implement the concreting of the Baguio side of the road for the benefit of safer and convenient travel among motorists,” Castañeda stressed.
However, he said contractors were only allowed to work on the sides of their project sites, particularly the construction of drainage systems, slope protection walls, carve and gutter and the cover of drainages while the concreting works were suspended.
He said all works funded under the 2014 regular infrastructure program of the agency in the city will be completed on time prior to the bidding out and implementation of programmed projects under the newly approved P2.6 trillion national budget.
Castañeda said technical personnel of the agency are closely monitoring the implementation of all public works projects that were funded under the national budget so that the contractors will be able to implement their awarded works pursuant to the plans and specifications of their respective works.
“We will try to make sure that we will not have projects that are behind schedule so that we will be able to pursue the implementation of more projects in the city which will be beneficial to the greater majority of the people,” he said.
The DWPH-BCDEO official said among the on-going road rehabilitation projects in the city include the rehabilitation and upgrading of Rimando Road, upgrading of Baguio-Asin Road, rehabilitation of Naguilian Road and some other infrastructure projects citywide.
He appealed to the motoring and commuting public being inconvenienced by the various road projects being implemented in the different parts of the city to be patient in dealing with the current state of traffic because they will soon experience better travel around the city once the projects will be completed by the different contractors.
He said all contractors are now being required to submit their respective work schedules to the agency so that they can strictly monitor their last-minute activities and for the agency to be able to check their compliance to the prescribed plans and specifications so that the quality of their works will not be compromised and would affect the convenience of the motorists in the future.
