BONTOC, Mountain Province – Recognizing the role of the youth in the fight against illegal drugs, an Essay Writing Contest was participated in by the public and private junior and senior high school learners in the province on November 17, 2017.
This coincides with the observance of the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Month this November.
Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) Focal Person Angel B. Baybay said that the activity sponsored by the PADAC, in coordination with the Mountain Province Schools Division Office (MPSDO), aimed to increase the awareness of the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. who also chairs the PADAC expressed his full support to the proposal of Rev. Fr. Marcial C. Castañeda, the Parish Priest of Sta. Rita de Cascia and a member of the PADAC that the use of arts, music and literary works can also be an instrument in response to drug prevention. The Essay Writing Contest focused on the role of students in the fight against illegal drugs and the Battle of the Bands with the Drug-Free song composition of Rev. Fr. Castañeda as the contest piece were among the approved activities of the council for this year.
With the 12 participating school districts in the Essay Writing Contest, Skyler B. Dagacan of Sagada National High School (NHS) bagged first place and received P 3,000.00 cash prize. Aside from this, Dagacan was given a tablet courtesy of Rio Chico Marketing.
Ellen Myles C. Baldong of Tadian School of Arts and Trades (TSAT) ranked second place and received a cash prize of P2,000.00 while Adrielle Taganas of Guinzadan NHS landed in third place and received P 1,000.00 cash prize.
The other contestants who did not make it to the Top 3 received a consolation prize of P500.00 each. Aside from this, all contestants received a TM simcard with load.
