BONTOC, Mountain Province – Some 63 families in the province whose houses were totally damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon Lawin received financial assistance distributed by the Provincial Government of Mountain Province.
Each recipient received P5,000 as an augmentation of expenses incurred in the restoration and/or construction of their houses.
The financial assistance came from the donations received by the provincial government from other local government units (LGUs) in other places, agencies and private entities.
Social Welfare Officer IV Miguela P. Angwani of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) said that the basis of identifying the recipients was the report consolidated by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) whose houses were totally damaged when Typhoon Lawin hit the province in October of last year.
Of the 63 recipients, nine are in Bauko, six in Sabangan, 19 in Paracelis, eight in Barlig, seven in Sadanga, four in Bontoc, seven in Tadian and one in Sagada. As of this writing, only the recipients from Paracelis have not receive financial assistance.
During the distribution of the financial assistance to recipients from Tadian and Bauko on February 1, 2017, Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. assures the support of the provincial government in the best way it can to the recipients. He added that the amount received by the recipients is small, still, he hopes that it will help them recover from the aftermath of Typhoon Lawin.
Supporting this endeavor is Provincial Ordinance No. 258 establishing the guidelines in the provision of financial assistance to individuals/ families in crisis situations and those affected by natural or human-made calamities.
The ordinance states that the Provincial Government of Mountain Province through the PSWDO shall provide financial assistance to abused, abandoned, neglected and exploited children and adults; victims of disaster, chronically/ seriously ill patients; and other in extremely difficult situations.
