BAGUIO CITY – World Blood Donor Day is simultaneously celebrated on June 14 in Baguio with voluntary blood donation at the Melvin Jones Grandstand; and testimonies of blood donees at the Prince Plaza Hotel.
The theme for this year is “Blood Connects Us All,” with the local slogan, “Share Life, Give Life,” it was known during the Department of Health (DOH-CAR) Kapihan last Thursday.
Medical Technologist Anthony Baigen, blood program coordinator said the ceremonies highlight the connection between the donor and patient-donee through blood transfusion. Patients saved through blood transfusion share their experience, it was known.
Meanwhile, the bloodletting which goes on from 9AM to 4PM, June 14 would boost the blood reserves of the city through the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), Baguio Chapter, it was also known in a letter from administrator Anastacia Tamayo to Mayor Mauricio Domogan.
The mayor approved the activity which banners the collection of ‘safe and quality blood supply” in the city.
Baigen called for donors who would be medically checked before donation; considering over-all health. Individuals from 18 to 65 may donate while those 16 and 17 years old need to get a written permission from their parents.
Blood donations are accepted at the PNRC Baguio Chapter, Harrison road, (tel no. 442-4036 and 424-7953) and Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
