BUGUIAS, Benguet – A 27-yeard farmer died while his 25-year old back rider was injured after their motorcycle collided head on with a truck along the Buguias-Kabayan road, particularly at Man-asok, Baculungan Sur here Wednesday.
Senior Superintendent Florante Camuyot, officer-in-charge of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, identified the fatality as Samuel Sabunggan Habawil, 27, single, farmer and a native of Tiblac, Ambaguio, Nuevz Vizcaya while he named the injured motorcycle back rider as Ricardo Akiangan Mocate, 25, single and a resident of Impugong, Tinoc, Ifugao.
Initial police investigation showed that the motorcycle was traversing the said road when the elf truck driven by Samuel Tugin Marcos, 28, married and a resident Bot-owan, Catlubong, Buguias, Benguet that came from the opposite direction suddenly encroached their lane which caused the head on collision.
The two individuals were thrown off their motorcycle and banged their head and bodies on the concrete pavement and were immediately rushed by concerned citizens to the Lutheran District Hospital but Habawil expired while undergoing medical treatment while Mocate was discharged after treatment.
Marcos was subsequently brought to the Buguias Municipal Police Station awaiting the filing of appropriate charges against him before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
