ATOK, Benguet – A 56-year old aspirant for the position of barangay kagawad died after he was hit by a jeepney after he jumped off the said vehicle that was about to fall in a canal at Inuman, Padong, here, Friday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Osias Alumit Kimbungan, 56, married, candidate for Barangay Kagawad and resident of Naguey, Atok, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed that a passenger jeepney was traversing an elevated portion of the road when the driver, Albert Esid, allegedly lost control of the steering wheel which caused the vehicle to fall in a canal in the place of incident.
Sensing danger, the victim allegedly jumped out of the vehicle but he was hit by the falling vehicle before landing in the canal.
The victim was rushed to the Benguet General Hospital for medical treatment but he expired several hours later while undergoing close medical supervision.
