CONNER, Apayao – A total of 104 ALS learners from various barangay in Conner town received school supplies including backpacks, clear books, notebooks, ballpens and umbrellas on August 8 and 9, 2024.
The distribution of the school supplies was made possible by the Provincial Government of Apayao headed by Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. and the initiative of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
By providing school supplies to ALS learners, the financial pressure shouldered by parents as well as the teachers can be lessened and likewise convince the out-of-school youth and adults (OSYA) to go back to school and continue their studies on an equivalent and flexible pathway to complete their education.
The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a free education program implemented by the Department of Education under the Bureau of Alternative System which benefits those who cannot afford to avail the services of formal schooling and follows whatever their available schedule.
With ALS, out of school youth can continue their education as the program provides a viable alternative for the existing formal education instruction, encompassing both the non-formal and informal sources of knowledge and skills.
907 learners are currently enrolled in the ALS Program of the Education Department in Apayao.
Ms. Jocelyn Loyon Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO), during the distribution, encouraged the learners to keep pushing forward with their enthusiasm and dedication.
“Your education is a valuable investment in yourself, and it will open doors to new opportunities and experiences is a pursue their education for them to find better job someday. By pursuing your education, you’re investing in your future, your career, and your personal growth,” Loyon said.
One of ALS learners’, meantime, expressed her message, saying ” agyaman kami ken agituy inted yu nga school supplies ket dakkel atoy nga tulong kanyami ti inkami pinagbasa”. By Michelle Acantilado
