LUNA, Apayao – A total of 107 members of the barangay tanod from eleven barangays in the municipality, the first batch of trainees, underwent a training on November 19-20, 2024 on Barangay Tanod Skills Training under the Enhanced Barangay Newly-Elected Officials towards the Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (EBNEO-GREAT) Barangays Program.
The training, which was held at the Municipal Conference Hall, aims to capacitate the newly-elected barangay tanods to enable them to perform their mandated tasks and responsibilities and build a continuum of capacity development framework for actions anchored on the basic tenets of good governance such as transparency, accountability, and integrity, and participatory governance and corruption free communities.
Further, the training is designed to respond to the extensive roles of the barangays in delivering basic services to their constituents, and at the same time, acting as the link between the national government and the people.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government- Apayao (DILG) in partnership with the provincial and municipal governments conducted the said training.
During the first day of the training, the topics discussed were (1) the profile of a Barangay Tanod, (2) Roles of Barangay Tanod in BPOC, (3) Gender Sensitive Barangay Tanod (Rights Based Approach: Proper Handling of cases involving women, (4) Child-Friendly Barangay Tanod ( Rights Based Approach: Proper handling cases involving children and (5) Human Rights Overview: Concepts, Principles and Laws.
Atty. Alyssa Joyce Du-Sampaga of the Provincial Legal Office, social worker Lailanie Ongto, POC Focal Person Jerica Ducsa and local government operations officer Joan-ana Dumalsin served as the resource speakers during the first day of the said training.
The first batch of participants are barangay tanods from barangays Bacsay, Cagandungan, Calabigan, Calayucay, Cangisitan, Capagaypayan, Dagupan, Lappa, Marag, Poblacion and Quirino.
On the second day of the training, Municipal Police Station and municipal Bureau of Fire Protection served as the resource speakers on crime prevention, basic patrol operations, traffic assistance, arrest technique, use of Non-lethal Weapon and Barangay Tanods as First Responders.
DILG-Apayao said the second batch of barangay tanods will be having their training on November 21-22, 2024. By Krizza Castillo
