LUNA, Apayao – A total of 108 Provincial Green Guards gathered at the Apayao Eco Tourism and Sports Complex (AETSC) Clubhouse in San Gregorio, Luna, for their Capability Training and Mid-Year Evaluation.
The event began with a clean-up drive at the AETSC, where the green guards and ENRD staff participated in clearing and brushing activities.
Hon. Mcleen B. Julian, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on Environment, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the green guards’ crucial role in securing Apayao’s designation as the 4th UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Rainier D. Balbuena of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office motivated participants with a call to unite against climate change.
Hon. Kyle Mariah Chelsea Bulut-Cunan, Vice Chairperson of the SP on Environment, praised the green guards for their support in achieving international recognition for Apayao. She also administered the oath of office to the newly elected officers of the green guards.
The training included lectures from experts on the Fisheries Code of the Philippines, native tree identification, and proper solid waste management, aiming to enhance the green guards’ environmental management skills.
The program concluded with the presentation of accomplishments, ratification of by-laws, and a mid-year evaluation. By Loremia Pareja
