LUNA, Apayao – A total of 109 youth interns have officially started their six-month government assignments in Apayao under the Department of Labor and Employment’s Government Internship Program (DOLE-GIP), beginning June 2, 2025.
Their deployment comes after a series of orientation sessions conducted in May in the municipalities of Luna, Conner, and Kabugao. The activity was jointly organized by the DOLE-Apayao Field Office and the Office of Congresswoman Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang, who has continuously funding the program since 2014.
DOLE-GIP offers short-term employment to young individuals, particularly senior high school graduates and college degree holders, giving them a firsthand experience of public service. Beyond serving as an entry point to the labor market, the program also seeks to build work ethic, practical skills, and a greater understanding of government service.
This year, PHP 7 million has been earmarked for the program’s implementation in Apayao, covering the interns’ stipends and training expenses. Interns will be assigned to local and national government offices in the province until November 30. Extensions may be considered based on performance and fund availability.
DOLE-Apayao Head Jane Y. Adalan encouraged the interns to take the opportunity seriously.
“Not everyone gets this chance. Make the most of it, do your best and show what you can contribute,” she said.
Marcelo Saleo-an Jr., DOLE focal person for GIP, reminded the interns to maintain professionalism throughout their deployment.
“Be respectful, be mindful of your behavior, and greet everyone with a smile,” he advised.
With programs like GIP, the government continues its efforts to prepare the next generation of public servants, building both capability and character among the yApayao youth. By Diocen Tolentino
