CALANASAN, Apayao – A total of 110 differently abled individuals granted a cash aid amounting to PhP130, 000.00 from the municipal government.
The disbursement was done during the celebration of the 49th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week at the Calanasan Sports & Cultural Center on July 31, 2024 led by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) in partnership with the Rural Health Unit.
The celebration also added different engaging activities such as: Scrabble and poster competitions, aiming to educate and help the community, especially individuals with disabilities.
In the event, Atty. Ofe Marie Balalio–Lumbo and Rhodora Isabella Balalio discussed rights and benefits of persons with disabilities, emphasizing the importance of health awareness and available support systems for them.
Additionally, the Municipal Police Station discussed some legal frameworks, R.A. 9262 (Anti- Violence Against Women and their Children Act) and R.A 7610 (Special Protection Act of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act), to inform participants about their legal protection and rights.
After the activities one of the participants expressed his gratitude for the support of the municipal government in improving their quality of life, saying “Salamat LGU Calanasan sa tulong na iyong ibinigay sa mga PWD, Salamat sa iyong pagmamalasakit at pagmamahal upang mapabuti ang aming kalagayan.” By Loremia Pareja
