PUDTOL, Apayao – More than 11,000 worth of abandoned illegally sawn lumber were seized by combined police operatives and intelligence agents during a follow-up operation that was conducted at Upper Maton, here, last Saturday.
Earlier, the police officers of Pudtol Municipal Police Station and the personnel of CENRO Calanasan-Luna Sub-Office launched an operation immediately after receiving information from a concerned citizen about some abandoned illegally sawn flitches in barangay Upper Maton.
Upon arrival, the team discovered in the area 10 pieces of Arimas and seven pieces of Tanguile flitches with a total volume of 315 board feet and an estimated value of Php11,025.00.
After documentation, the recovered flitches were transported and turned over to CENRO Calanasan-Luna Sub-Office in San Gregorio, Luna for proper disposition, while an ongoing investigation is being conducted to arrest possible suspects who will face charges for violating PD 705 or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines.
Furthermore, the Apayao PPO urges the community to promptly report any suspicious activities related to illegal logging. By Dexter A. See
