LUNA, Apayao – A total of 12 barangays in the province of Apayao were declared national passers in the pilot implementation of the 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) awards of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The barangays come from 5 municipalities. In Calanasan, Barangay Sabangan, among other barangays, is the recognized passer. In Conner, they are Barangay Buluan; Luna, Bacsay, Dagupan, Lappa, Poblacion, San Sebastian, and Tumog; Pudtol, San Antonio. For Santa Marcela, they are Barangays Imelda, Marcela, and Panay.
This is out of 133 regular barangays of the province. DILG Apayao said the 12 barangays performed well with commitment to provide excellent public service as demonstrated by their prompt actions on matters concerning the SGLGB.
The SGLGB is a performance assessment and recognition system that aims to give distinction to barangays with remarkable performance across various governance areas. It also intends to encourage barangays to continuously progress in delivering efficient, equitable and quality public services. It puts primacy on integrity and good performance as pillars of meaningful local autonomy and development.
The recognition of the efforts and achievements of local government units (LGUs) is crucial in motivating them to continue their hard work and dedication towards progress and good governance. The DILG stated that by acknowledging their achievements, other LGUs are encouraged to strive for excellence and better performance, leading to overall development and improvement in the delivery of public services. Additionally, the recognition serves as a positive reinforcement for LGUs to continue their efforts towards excellence and ultimately, contribute to the overall development of our society.
