BAGUIO CITY – The Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) recently announced that its over 150,000 power consumers within its franchise area in Baguio and Benguet will be experiencing a 12hour power brownout from 6 am to 6 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 because of the replacement of its 20mva transformer at North Sanitary Camp to a 50 mva transformer in order to improve the reliability of its system and quality of power to the groining number of consumers.
The 12-phour power outage was contained in an advisory circulated to selected media outfits and local governments within its franchise area.
Aside from the decommissioning of the 20mva transformer, other works to be done within the cooperative’s system include diversion of the load of the 20mva North Sanitary Camp power transformer (feeders 8, 9 and 10) to the existing 5- mva power transformer, right-of-way clearing of the feeders to be interrupted and diversion of some lateral lines of the 50mva in North Sanitary Camp sub-station to the mva Lamut sub-station and lateral loads of feeder 13 of the 20 mva Lamut substation to the NGCP Dalico sub-station.
During the replacement of the 20mva by the 50 mva transformer, BENECO revealed that there might be occurrences of unwanted power outages due to the increase in loading of the existing 50mva power transformer.
BENECO cited that the areas to be affected by the 12-hour power outage will be Baguio city, La Trinidad, Sablan and Tuba.
