LUNA, Apayao – The provincial government, through the Provincial Veterinary Office and Farmer Livestock School Ruminant Production, has awarded 12 female carabaos to 12 farmers of Pudtol on August 1 at the Provincial Veterinary Office and Agri-Vet Office at Payanan, Luna.
The distribution of the carabaos is part of the Awarding of Interventions in Support to Livestock Program of PVO which is in line with the 10-point agenda of Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. for the poverty alleviation and economic progress of yApayaos.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Edimar Pascua, during his talk. lauded the veterinary office for their continuous work and aid to farmers as he reminded the beneficiaries to take care of the animals and multiply the livestock.
The beneficiary farmers are one of those undergoing schooling at the Farmer Livestock School Pudtol which started in April and ends this November.
The first batch who complied to some requirements like attending classes every Thursday of the week, and were validated to have a forest area with Napier, Guatemala, Trichanthera Gigantea, and Mombasa grass for the carabaos were selected.
The program aims to sustain and produce more livestock. The ruminants produced from the ones provided shall then be distributed to other farmers who will comply with the said requirements.
To ensure the result, farmers sign a memorandum of agreement as their guide in obeying the rules imposed. Apart from this, the animals awarded to them shall be monitored regularly.
In the next weeks, additional 8 carabaos will be given to 8 more farmers who availed of the program. By Loremia Pareja & Jacquelene Lemi
