TABUK CITY, Kalinga – As of August of this year, 132 cooperatives had been registered in the city, according to data from the City Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (CCEDO).
Seventy-nine of these 132 registered cooperatives had certificates of compliance, according to CCEDO head Catherine Uera.
There are 11 small category coops with a total of 42,632 members and 95 micro-scale category coops with a total of 49,016 registered members.
The ten large-scale cooperatives have the largest membership base of 87,876 members while the 16 medium-sized cooperatives have 12,872 members.
Records from the 132 cooperatives show that 192,396 members were registered.
According to Catherine Lee Uera, Department Head of CCEDO, they are encouraging organizations to maintain their cooperatives and are supporting those who plan to register them with the Cooperatives Development Authority.
According to the CCEDO head, the city is being considered to be the first cooperative city in the Philippines as it has the most number of cooperatives in the country, with over 50% of the city’s total population registered with the different cooperatives.
The study project “The positioning of Tabuk City to be the first cooperative city” is now being carried out by the CCEDO.
Mayor Darwin Estrañero is a nominee for the National Gawad Parangal 2024 under the Local Chief Executive Category under the Component City because of the accomplishments of the city government and its support for the cooperatives in the city.
Uera is also a nominee in the City Cooperatives Office category.
The awarding will be in October this year in Metro Manila during the National Cooperative Month Celebration Culminating Program. By Ian Addatu
