LUNA, Apayao – A total of 138 Apayao Barangay Social Welfare Workers (ABSWWs) from different towns in Apayao gathered for their Semestral Meeting and Consultation on June 25, 2025, at the Apayao Tourism and Sports Complex (ATSC) Clubhouse in San Gregorio, Luna.
The activity was led by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) to reinforce coordination among barangay-level workers and discuss the status of ongoing social welfare efforts in the province.
One of the main portions of the program was the presentation of the ABSWW Accomplishment Report, which laid out the work done by barangay social workers in the first half of the year; from child protection programs to support for senior citizens, outreach for persons with disabilities, and participation in local response during emergencies. Some of the practices shared by different municipalities were recognized and discussed for possible replication.
During the meeting, ABSWWs also received their Philippine Red Cross membership cards. Apart from being symbols of their continued service, the cards offer added protection and access to emergency assistance through the Red Cross.
Provincial Governor’s Office (PGO) Chief of Staff Verlie Mae Baldovino, in her message, reminded the participants of the weight of their work.
“Dapat maging proud kayo sa inyong mga trabaho, dahil nagsisilbi kayong tulay sa pagitan ng gobyerno at mga residente. Let’s keep pushing forward for the betterment of our families, our communities, and for our province. Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and for your service,” she said.
The meeting culminated with a collective understanding of the challenges and a strong resolve to keep working with government offices and partners in delivering basic social services to every corner of the province. By Michelle Acantilado
