BAGUIO CITY – Fourteen passengers of a La Trinidad-bound passenger jeepney were hurt after their vehicle suffered mechanical trouble and bumped a truck along Lower Magsaysay Avenue here recently.
Senior Superintendent Rolando F. Miranda, officer-in-charge of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), said eleven of the wounded passengers were immediately brought to the Pines City Doctors Hospital, two were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) and one was brought to the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) for medical treatment of the injuries they sustained.
Those who were treated at the Pines City Doctors Hospital were Devora Pili Bolona, 18, single, resident of KD 58 Cruz, LTB; Mary Jane Licupa Ducusin, 24, single, resident of # 63 Lower Quirino Hill, Baguio City; Walter Daluyen Jensen, 17, single, resident of FB 162 Balili, LTB; Rheba Claire Dalusen Wanas, 17, student, a resident of FB 162 Balili, LTB; Jerrica Dalusen Wanas, 21, student, a resident of FB 162 Balili, LTB; Raquel Diwas Vasadre, 24, single, a resident of # 63 Lower Quirino Hill, Baguio City; Diana Amkinit Macagne, 27, single, nurse, a resident of KB 84-A Cruz, LTB, Liis Nimuel Foraki, 17, single, a resident of KM 12 LTB; Agnes Grace Magbuan Orencia, 26, single, teacher, a resident of BSU Compound Balili, LTB; Genevive Dumis Ti, 26, a resident of KM 4, LTB; and Desiree Casio Estong, 22, single, a resident of FE 325 KM 3, LTB.
On the other hand, those who were treated at the BGHMC were Elsie Betiwin Bayongasan, 49, married a resident of Atok, Benguet; and Monica Pugsong Bentrez, 21, student and a resident of Tabangawen Balili, LTB while the lone victim given medical attention at the BeGH was named as Marites B. Madao, 30, (5 months pregnant).
Initial police investigation showed that the ill-fated jeepney driven by Miller Balictan Cuenco, 22, single and a resident of Camp Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet was descending along Lower Magsaysay Avenue en route to the capital town of La Trinidad when the same encountered mechanical trouble, particularly the malfunctioning of its brake system and subsequently bumped the rear portion of a truck that was on its front.
Because of the impact of the collision, the fourteen passengers were immediately rushed to the different hospitals for medical treatment and most of them were subsequently released after having being given medical attention.
The driver was detained at the BCPO headquarters awaiting the filing of the charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries and damage to property against him before the city prosecutor’s office.
