BAGUIO CITY October 21 – A total of 1,512 patients have been served during the two-day free medical and dental missions conducted by SM Foundation at Irisan Barangay and Lucban Elementary School last October 18-19, 2016.
SMFI initiated “Gamot Para Sa Kapwa”, is a comprehensive medical and dental mission, in response to the need of the indigent families to be provided with complete healthcare.
SM Foundation provides free health services such as medical consultations, basic laboratory tests and dental check-ups to communities through its medical missions. In addition to this, SM Foundation also dispenses proper and complete dosages of medicines to its medical mission patients through its Gamot Para sa Kapwa medicine campaign.
During the two-day missions, SM Foundation has offered free chest X-ray, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, medical consultation, dental services and free medicines to patients in cooperation with City Health Office, Philippine Military Academy, Baguio Health Department, 911 On Call and the City Government of Baguio.
Over the years, the program has been conducted in SM malls, Savemores, SM Hypermarkets, Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Centers and other institutionalized organizations and communities. To reach more locations especially those in the far-flung areas, SM Foundation makes use of its mobile clinics.
For SM Foundation, caring for the sick and the less fortunate has gone beyond traditional. It means promoting the total well-being of individuals by providing them basic health services and most of all, encouraging them to have a positive outlook despite life’s many challenges.
SM Foundation Inc., SM’s outreach and community service organization, has four areas of advocacy: education through scholarship and donations of schoolhouses, mall-based outreach programs, health, and community projects. Its guiding principle through the years has been People Helping People, as it undertakes projects with civic organizations, government agencies, and the media.
SM Foundation has already organized 1,222 medical missions assisting 921,676 beneficiaries in indigent communities since 2001 until October 2016.
