MANKAYAN, Benguet – Some one thousand five hundred forty five mine workers in the municipality received relief assistance from the municipal government to help them cope with the heavy impact of the strict implementation of the stringent community quarantine measures to combat the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong led municipal officials and employees in the distribution of the half cavan of rice to the members of the 1,295 members of the Lepanto Employees Union (LEU) and 250 members of the Lepanto Local Staff Union (LLOSU), including confidential staff in the mine site.
He disclosed the distribution of the relief assistance from the municipal government took several days to be completed because of the working shifts of the mine workers aggravated by the daily afternoon rains that hampered the smooth distribution process to the listed beneficiaries.

The municipal chief executive pointed out that the provision of relief assistance to the members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors in the municipality is part of the efforts of the municipal government in mitigating the serious negative effect of the implementation of the community quarantine measures to the employment and sources of livelihood of the people.
According to him, the municipal government continues to assess the other vulnerable and marginalized sectors in the municipality that should be provided with relief assistance so that the municipal government can procure and apportion the limited supplies it has for the needs of these sectors in these time of the pandemic.
Earlier, the municipal government extended similar relief assistance to barangay health workers and barangay nutrition scholars, persons with disabilities, solo parents, security guards, among other sectors who were impacted by the previous implementation of the Luzon-wide lockdown that caused most economic activities to stop.
Mayor Ayong claimed that despite the municipal government’s meager resources, municipal officials are trying their best to ensure that relief assistance can be extended to the members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors who had been previously identified as the beneficiaries of the program.
Ayong also expressed his gratitude to Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap for assisting the municipal government in the provision of the needed relief assistance to the heavily impacted sectors from the town’s different barangays during the community quarantine period.
