SABLAN, Benguet – Seventeen passengers of a Sablan-bound passenger jeepney cheated death after their vehicle reportedly suffered from mechanical trouble and eventually plunged into a 35-feet ravine at sitio Batiled, barangay Pappa here around 2:50 pm Friday.
Senior Inspector Azalea Nucup-Rabena, chief of the Sablan Municipal Police Station, identified the four wounded passengers as Bastilia Tacio Barawa, 55; Merly Calado Walsen, 33, Grace Moreno Barawa, 56 and Florinda Acdang Bestre, 41, all residents of barangay Pappa, Sablan, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed that the passenger jeepney bearing license plate number AYA-91 which was driven by Rivera Donga Eldayap was traversing the road leading to barangay Pappa when it suffered from mechanical trouble that caused the driver to lose control of the same until it plunged into a 35-feet deep ravine.
Rescuers and police operatives immediately rushed the victims to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for medical treatment.
Rabena cited investigation is still underway on the real cause of the vehicular accident that transpired in the said place.
