BAGUIO CITY – Some nineteen workers were able to cheat death after they were successfully rescued by police operatives and rescuers inside the City Camp Lagoon tunnel where they were earlier trapped due to the increase in the volume of water Saturday afternoon.
Senior Superintendent George D. Daskeo, acting city director of the Baguio City Police Office, said the BCPO tactical operations center received a telephone call regarding the alleged trapped workers inside the City Camp Lagoon tunnel who were currently working for the contractor of the rehabilitation works.
He cited the cause of the workers being trapped is due to the prolonged heavy downpour that caused the volume of water flowing into the tunnel to increase thereby preventing the workers from immediately going out.
Daskeo reported that because of the combined efforts of the police, rescuers from the city government and barangay volunteers, the nineteen workers were safely moved out from the tunnel and were declared out of danger.
