LUBAGAN, Kalinga – Two soldiers died while four others were injured after a lightning struck them in the conduct of their routine military operations in the boundary of West Oma here and Balatoc in nearby Pasil town late Sunday afternoon.
Police authorities identified the fatalities as Cpl. Andrew Five Monterubio and Pvt. Inmongog F. Aronchay.
Further, the injured soldiers were named as Sgt. Denis Bananao, Pfc Melvin Dangalan, Pvt. Abegil Awingan and Pvt. Riel Angya.
Earlier, the said military personnel were performing their routine military operations in the area when a lighting suddenly struck them that caused the untimely demise of the two government troopers and inflicting injuries to the six others who were immediately given medical attention at the Kalinga District hospital.
Lubuagan municipal officials expressed their deepest sympathy to the families, friends and colleagues of the fatalities and that the whole community mourns their untimely loss and recognized their significant contributions to the country’s security and peace.
Police and military authorities also commended the timely response of concerned local government offices in providing the necessary assistance to the victims and that they are grateful to the efforts of the medical professionals who provided immediate medical attention and care to the injured military personnel.
The concerned authorities called on the public to take the necessary precautions during the prevalence of thunderstorms and to strictly adhere to the prescribed guidelines provided by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents that may pose a serious threat to life and limb and to guarantee the safety of everyone.
