LUNA, Apayao – The two flood control projects in Kabugao, earlier endorsed by the provincial government, underwent validation on September 3, 2024.
The validation was conducted by the Regional Project Validation and Evaluation Team (RPVET) from the Office of the Civil Defense-Cordillera.
These projects are ‘the Construction of Flood Control Structure in Dagara Section’ and ‘Construction of Flood Control Structure in Maragat Section,’ with budgetary proposals of PhP74,331,047.92 and PhP35,483,587.47, respectively.
These projects are expected to protect and aid the 16,215 people of Kabugao and other neighboring municipalities by mitigating possible effects of flooding in low-lying areas.
Due to the town’s previous experiences, flooding was identified as a major concern, posing danger to residents and establishments in flood prone areas.
It can be recalled that on November 8, 2019, the province was placed under red alert status due to continuous heavy rains that caused widespread damage due to flooding.
Governor Bulut Jr. initiated the proposal of those projects for safety and prevention of casualties brought by said disaster. The governor believes these initiatives will be essential to ensuring that Kabugao and the surrounding areas are better equipped to face future challenges as the province works to recover and rebuild from previous disasters.
