The Regional Quality Assessment (RQAT) for the two programs, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), was conducted at Ifugao State University (IFSU) Lagawe Campus on June 4 to 5, 2025.
The assessment was conducted in order for the degree programs to obtain the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC), which is an official accreditation that validates the legitimacy and quality of the two programs offered in IFSU-Lagawe.
In addition, the COPC is important for the IFSU and graduates as this is needed primarily to be eligible in taking their board exams.
Thus, the assessment also ensures that the programs comply with the standards set by Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Among the areas evaluated were the curriculum, faculty, facilities and the program outcomes.
The evaluation was led by Engineer Abraham Os-osa from the CHED-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), accompanied by engineer Dionisio R. Tandingan Jr. and Alma A. Aguilar of the University of the Cordilleras, composing the Regional Quality Assessment Team.
Dr. Vicky K. Cadalig, Campus Executive Director of IFSU-Lagawe, highlighted the great quality of the facilities of both programs.
Moreover, Dr. Cadalig stated that the BSMEng has equipment worth PhP 25 million, while BSEEng’s equipment is valued at PhP 22 million.
She also mentioned the PhP 7.2 million worth of campus facilities for both degree programs.
Furthermore, in support of these programs, CHED funded the construction of the new buildings for the two programs worth PhP 15 million.
Despite these developments, Cadalig shared that the university is facing a shortage of faculty members for these new programs.
On the contrary, she expressed optimism that the assessment will have positive results, as this will provide the university’s credibility and prove their commitment in delivering quality education to the students.
The result of the assessment release schedule is expected to be handed out by the end of this month.// Joe C. Bulo-an, BSU-DevCom Intern
