PILAR, Abra – Two peopled, including an incumbent punong barangay, were killed, while another was injured after the convoy of former Langiden Mayor and now Pidigan mayoralty bet Artemio ‘Billy Boy’ Donato was allegedly ambushed by still unidentified gun-wielding men at sitio Palicad, Poblacion, here, late Friday afternoon.
Police Col. Gilbert Fati-eg, Acting Provincial Director of the Abra Provincial Police Office, identified the fatalities as Froilan Bisares Bueno, incumbent punong barangay of Quillat, Langiden town and Kevin Bisares Bueno, driver of one of the seven vehicles in the mayoralty candidate’s convoy; their injured companion was also identified as a certain Sonny Bisares, one of the individuals in the said convoy.
Probers claimed that the punong barangay sustained a lone gunshot wound on his stomach and later expired while undergoing medical treatment on a local hospital while the driver died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds on the different parts of his body.
Donato’s convoy was traversing the scene of the ambush when the heavily armed suspects who were positioned in an elevated area peppered them with gun fire.
The mayoralty candidate who was supposed to be the target of the said ambush was unhurt from the said incident.
Police authorities ordered the establishment of various stationary and mobile checkpoints around the province to intercept the fleeing gunmen for them to answer for the crime that they have committed against the victims of the said ambush.
Probers are still ascertaining the type of firearm that was used by the suspects in the perpetration of the said ambush against the mayoralty candidate. By Dexter A. See
