On May 31, 2025, residents and officials of Barangays Jucbong and Burnay conducted a unified Barangay Assembly centered on good governance, public safety and community participation.
With the theme, “Talakayan sa Barangay: Aktibong Diskusyon ng Pamayanan Tungo sa Masigla at Maunlad na Bagong Pilipinas,” the assembly was separately held at Jucbong Multi-Purpose Hall and Burnay Elementary School Gymnasium.
Barangay Captains Samuel N. Linnumo of Jucbong and Leodante K. Dumangeg of Burnay formally opened the assembly, both highlighting the importance of unity and participation in achieving sustainable peace and development at the community level.
The event brought together 96 out of 124 households from Barangay Jucbong and 111 out of 280 households from Barangay Burnay, emphasizing the role of community cooperation in implementing government programs.
“The success of the assembly can be measured by the residents’ response and compliance with the government’s policies and programs,” Linummo said.
The Barangay Councils are committed to maximizing information dissemination through letters, announcements, and social media posts, ensuring that every resident remains informed and involved.
Linnumo confirmed its commitment to inclusive and transparent governance, aligned with the Local Government Code of 1991.
DILG Programs, discussed
Roselle N. Aplosen, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer VI, presented the issues and addresses safety sanitation and sustainability, including road clearing operations, community cleanliness initiatives, Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG), CSO accreditation, material recovery facility (MRF) development, barangay participation in the anti-illegal drug campaign, awareness and protection programs under Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC), revitalized katarungang pambarangay and updating the registry of barangay inhabitants.
“These programs are designed not just to respond to immediate needs but to empower the communities for long-term growth,” Aplosen shared.
Collaboration for Peace and Order
Captain Brenda B. Sumawang, Acting Chief of Police of Lagawe Municipal Police Station, educated locals on municipal ordinances and citizens’ rights, duties, and responsibilities in maintaining peace and order.
On one hand, PEMS Domingo P. Wahigon delivered a lecture on Violence Against Women (VAW) and the importance of peaceful conflict resolution through the Katarungang Pambarangay Law.
On the other hand, PSSgt. Noel T. Gayamo discussed the health risks of illegal drugs and stressed community vigilance against terrorism and suspicious activities around the community.
“By encouraging cooperation and partnership between law enforcement and the community to address issues and establish trust, the activity aimed to improve public safety and police-community relations,” highlighted in the synthesis of the lectures of the LTMPS.
The implementation of the Barangay Assembly served as a major step in promoting a safer and more resilient community, improving public services, and reinforcing local democracy.
