BONTOC, Mountain Province – At around 9:30 A.M. of February 2, 2023, the Emergency Operations Center received information regarding a vehicular traffic accident along the Bontoc-Baguio Road at Dantay junction involving a motorcycle with a lone passenger and a jeepney.
The motorcycle driver, Dariel Puyongan, 19 years old and a native of Lagawa, Bauko, came from Bontoc and was on his way home to Bauko while the jeepney (with passengers) came from Sagada and was bound to Bontoc.
Per on-site assessment of the responding teams, the motorcycle driver sustained injuries on his right leg and right arm. The victim was managed and treated on-site by the responding teams prior to referral to the Bontoc General Hospital and was later referred to Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital for further care and management, while all passengers of the jeepney were unharmed.
Meanwhile, the report regarding the second collision was received at around 1:50 P.M. of the same day regarding a motor vehicle collision that transpired along the same road at Alab involving a red Innova vehicle with four individuals on board.
Per initial interview with the driver, they came from Sagada town and were on their way to the adjacent Sabangan municipality.
The driver, Nathan Dicoy, resident of Quirino Hill, Baguio City sustained minor injury and was immediately treated at the incident site while the other three passengers namely; John Ray Faycho, Jude Mariano, and Jin Fray from La Trinidad Benguet, were referred to the Bontoc General Hospital due to high blood pressure.
In this regard, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., thanked all the responders as well as the community volunteers for their immediate response.
Mayor Tudlong reiterated the importance of driving defensively and checking the BLOWBAGETS which means battery, lights, oil, water, brake, air, gas, engine, tire, and self, before traveling.
The responding teams came from the Bontoc Municipal Police Station, Bontoc Emergency Response Team, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Municipal Health Office, Bontoc Municipal Fire Station.
