SANTA MARCELA, Apayao – Some 20 promising entrepreneurs from Apayao participated in a two-day enhancement program focused on producing bakery products infused with ingredients from fruits and vegetables at the VFM Food Products in San Antonio, Santa Marcela, Apayao last September 7-8, 2023.
The participants represented various local entities and businesses, including Real Delicacies, Saranay Multi-Purpose Cooperative, National Irrigation Association-Apayao (NIA), Two-Z Catering Services, Puputi Bakeshop, and ALS-Santa Marcela.
This training initiative was organized by the Cordillera office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-CAR) in collaboration with the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) as a means to upgrade the skills of bakers and the quality of their products.
Ms. Felicidad C. Vicerra, a distinguished entrepreneur and three-time Provincial Best SETUP Adaptor in Apayao, served as the guest speaker of the said program, having been highly acclaimed for her Cassava and Carrot Cake offered by VFM Food Products.
During the training, Vicerra shared invaluable insights into launching and managing a successful business, covering topics such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), the art of baking with fruits and vegetables, and effective product costing. All of those are crucial aspects of running a profitable business.
Vicerra also demonstrated innovative ways to infuse mango, kamote, and cassava flavors into baked goods.
In addition to imparting knowledge, she motivated and inspired the participants by sharing her own business experiences, making her a source of encouragement and emulation for the aspiring entrepreneurs. By Jomella Dela Torre
