Lingayen, Pangasinan – Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino, III led the opening ceremony of the 2016 Pagalaw tan Olupan ed Gobyerno Itanduro (POGI) sportsfest at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) gymnasium, here, last Friday, November 4, 2016.
Dana Sales of team Benchmark led the early winners of the sportsfest. She won the Ms. Sportsfest plum. Anna Cristine Pale of the Financiers team and Ma. Beatrice Ramos of the Warriors team settled for runner-up honors.
Team Benchmark also won the action-packed cheerdance competition. Warriors team were again first runner-up and Medics team was third overall.
The month-long POGI sportsfest, which features seven teams representing clustered offices at the Capitol Complex including the provincial government-owned hospitals, is anchored on promoting sportsmanship, teamwork and physical fitness.
Governor Espino urged Capitol employees during the opening ceremony to highlight the impact of sports activity as a means to foster cooperation among fellow workers, kindle the enthusiasm of employees to indulge in sports and develop a sense of respect for others.
“The POGI sportsfest brings out the best of the competing teams, but let us always bear in mind the essence of respect for everyone,” Governor Espino said.
The sports program, spearheaded by the Governor himself, is a continuation of the Angguan Tan Ehersisyo (ATE) sporting activity, which was launched under the administration of his predecessor, former Pangasinan Governor and now 5th district Representative Amado T. Espino, Jr.
Aside from four teams earlier mentioned, the Generals, the Builders and the Legislators complete the seven-team lineup that are all vying for supremacy in various sporting events and the over-all championship crown.
The Financiers will don violet uniforms. It would be composed of the Assessor’s Office, Accounting Office, Treasury Office, Budget Office, Library, Legal Office, Veterinary Office, Agriculture Office, Social Welfare And Development Office, Civil Service Commission Office, Prosecutor’s Office, TESDA Office, Commission On Audit Office, National Commission On Indigenous People Office And Environment And Natural Resources Office.
The Generals will be marching in orange unis. The team shall be composed of the General Services Office – Administrative Division, Property Division, Building Maintenance, Narciso Ramos Sports And Civic Center And Buildings, Parks And Security Support Services Division.
The Builders will wear blue colored uniforms and shall be made up of the Provincial Engineering Office And Public Utility And Waterworks.
The Warriors will be identified by their yellow colored uniforms. Their players will be made up of employees from the Governor’s Office, Management Information Services Office, Provincial Warden’s Office, Human Resource Management And Development Office, Housing And Urban Development Office, Special Events, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction And Management Office, Provincial Employment Services Office, Capitol Resort Hotel, Provincial Tourism And Cultural Affairs Office, Provincial Planning And Development Office, Provincial Information Office, Bids And Awards Committee.
The Benchmark team will be in black colored uniforms and will be made up of employees from Pangasinan Provincial Hospital, Western Pangasinan District Hospital; Mangatarem District Hospital and community hospitals in
Dasol and Bolinao.
The Medics will be in pink. They will be composed of the Provincial Health Office, Provincial Population Office; Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital, Urdaneta District Hospital, Bayambang District Hospital, Lingayen District Hospital; and community hospitals in Asingan, Umingan, Pozorrubio, Mapandan and Manaoag.
The Legislators will wear white colored uniforms and be made up of the Vice Governor’s Office, Offices Of All Board Members And Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretariat Office.
The teams will compete in nine sporting events: lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, tug of war, chess, fun run and track and field.
