City officials recently congratulated and commended Aira C. Villegas and Nesthy Petecio of the University of Baguio (UB) for winning the bronze medals in the 50-kilogram and 57-kilogram, weight class ,respectively of the boxing competition of the 2024 Olympics held in Paris, France last July 26 to August 12, 2024.
In a resolution authored by Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr., local legislators stated that the excellent performance of Villegas and Petecio brought honor and pride to the higher education institution and to the city as a whole, they are well deserving of commendation and recognition from the local government and the entire Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Earlier, Villegas debuted in the Olympics by settling for the bronze medal in the women’s 50-kilogram weight class of the boxing competition held in Paris, France.
On the other hand, Petecio ended her second appearance in the Olympics by winning the bronze medal in the 57-kilogram weight class of the boxing competition of the 2024 Paris Summer Games.
Villegas and Petecio, including a UB alumnus Carlo Paalam, were among the 22-person delegation sent by the Philippines to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics held in Paris, France.
Villegas backed down after an unanimous decision in favor of Turkey’s Buse Naz Cakiroglu while Petecio ended her Olympic comeback in the said category after a split decision loss against Poland’s Julia Szeremeta.
