LUNA, Apayao – Twenty-two provincial guards underwent the first batch of two-day Marksmanship Training conducted by the provincial government through the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) last August 29 and 30, 2024 held at the Apayao Provincial Police Office in Camp Allan, Sta Lina in this municipality.
This training aimed to enhance knowledge and skills of the guards on the use of issued firearms while also learning and exhibiting gun discipline.
The trainees gained basic knowledge on proper shooting and handling firearms in cases of actual gun fight and when not in use.
The trainees were taught safe gun handling and fundamentals of marksmanship. Aside from lectures, the training also included Practical Exercise: Dry Fire and Turning/ Facing Drills, Practical Exercise: Diagnostic Test (Live Firing Eight rounds Live Bullets per individual), Practical Exercise: MHMT Phase 1 (20) rounds Live Bullets per Individual, Practical Exercise: Record Firing and Practical Exercise: MHMT Phase 2 ((30) rounds Live Bullets per Individual.
PCpl Val Denver B. Balacang and PCpl Bryner M. Baydan served as the Learning Service Providers (LSP) to the security personnel.
On the second day the LSPs had conducted a short briefing and recap on range safety. Skills in handling firearms is useful as they have to deal with security threats inside and outside the capitol.
In his message Provincial Administrator Atty. Edmar Pascua said that “uray ammum pumaltug nu awan discipline mo awan serbi na, we are lucky nga adda program iti provincial government nga kastoy.”
Pascua added that firearms training is essential for provincial guards even though they do not frequently carry guns during their duty.
After the training, Loyd Rio Karl Sion, OIC-HRMO congratulated the provincial guards for the safe conduct of the training, and emphasized the importance of constant awareness on gun safety throughout their career and throughout their lives.
According to the HRMO the second batch of the said training shall be on September 5 & 6, 2024. By Krizza Joy Castillo
