LUNA, Apayao – With the purpose of obtaining knowledge and skills for the establishment, operation and management of a cooperative, 23 members of Apayao Provincial Employees’ Association for Service Excellence (ApPEASE) participated in a Pre- Registration Seminar (PRS) for cooperatives.
The seminar, held at the Conference Hall, Main Capitol Bldg., on November 06, 2024, oriented the members of ApPEASE on the requirements of forming a cooperative.
ApPEASE President Larry Pattag, Jr. said that they want to expand their association into a cooperative, and thus the seminar, temporarily naming their group as Apayao Provincial Employees Credit Cooperative (APECCo).
Pattag also shared his plan that after two years, they will have improved APECCo into a multipurpose cooperative, marking a significant milestone in the employees efforts to foster a sense of unity and collaborative growth.
Pattag added that cooperative is a practical vehicle for promoting self-reliance and harnessing member-employees’ capacities towards economic development, fostering self-help, mutual aid and benefits, responsibility and solidarity.
The seminar, facilitated by the Cooperative Development Authority-Apayao (CDA), provided comprehensive education to the founding members regarding the principles, regulations, and management practices associated with cooperative formation, which constitute a pivotal step in the establishment of a cooperative.
During the seminar, Seanray Zuniga Ortanez, Cooperative Development Specialist, discussed the CDA’s mandate, giving a lecture on cooperative principles, registration procedures, democratic control, and the benefits of collective ownership.
Through the seminar, participants gained clearer understanding of the necessary documentation, organizational structure, and legal compliance requirements for cooperative registration. They were also briefed on the various types of cooperatives available, highlighting the specific advantages and sustainability of each for various business ventures.
For membership, the group forming the new cooperative decided that the paid-up capital would be PhP5,000, PhP400 as membership fee and PhP100 as annual due. They decide the minimum subscribed capital share at PhP1,000.00. By Krizza Castillo
