LANGIDEN, Abra – Three people, including the son of the vice mayor in the town, died after they allegedly drowned when they went to swim in one of the major river systems at Quillat, here, Thursday.
Police authorities identified the fatalities as Isidro Aglibot Bueno II, 25, single; Princess Bueno Millare, 8, Grade 2, both residents of barangay Quillat, Langiden, Abra and Sheeny Bersola, 13, Grade 8, and a resident of Barangay Dangdangla, Bangued, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed that the trio and their companions went swimming along the Abra river when Berzola was carried away by the strong water current that prompted Bueno to come to her rescue.
However, the tree was carried away by the strong water current and rescuers were only able to initially retrieve the bodies of Bueno and Millare who were rushed to the Abra Provincial Hospital for medical treatment but were declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
The lifeless body of Berzola was later recovered by members of the search and rescue teams that conducted continuous search and rescue along the said river system several hours later.
