TABUK CITY, Kalinga– Three people died while one was hurt after two motorcycles collided head on along the provincial road at barangay Appas here Monday night.
Senior Superintendent Victor Wanchakan, director of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, identified the fatalities as Devon Gudayen Balao-as, 22, a motorcycle driver and his back rider Darwin Bun-as, both residents of Upper Poblacion, Balbalan, Kalinga and Montano Dangngit Adis, 26, another motorcycle rider and a resident of Callagdao, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
“The two motorcycles were in full speed coming from opposite directions when they accidentally collided with each other prompting the occupants to be thrown out of their vehicles,” Wanchakan said.
All the occupants of the two motorcycles were immediately rushed to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital for medical treatment but Balao-as and Adis were pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians while Bun-as was transferred to the St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan where he was also pronounced dead on arrival.
The police official confirmed the individuals involved in the vehicular accident were reportedly under the influence of liquor during the occurrence of the said vehicular accident
Witnesses informed probers they heard the noise of two speeding motorcycles that came from separate directions when they accidentally collided with each other forcing the victims to be thrown to around 40 meters apart from the crime scene.
Melvin Tugade Pascual, the back rider of Adis, is now recovering from the multiple head and body injuries he sustained as a result of the collision.
Wanchakan said probers are still conducting an in-depth investigation on the vehicular accident to ascertain the responsibility of the motorcycle drivers as he called on motorists to observe defensive driving when travelling along roads within and outside the province.
